Emly Starr (born September 5, 1957 in Laarne , Flanders ; actually Marie-Christine Mareels ) is a Belgian singer .

biography

Mareels began her career under the stage name Heidi, but changed this soon in Emly Starr, under which it few in the late 1970s pop and disco titles published. In 1978 she starred in the short film Santiago Lovers by Romano Ferrari. With some dancers, she founded the group Disc Emly Rigid explosion , which it in 1980 on the 11th World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo participated. They reached eighth place with the song Mary Brown .

In 1981 Emly Starr took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , which was organized by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title Eurosong 1981 . With the song Samson & Delilah , she was able to win the preliminary round after successfully qualifying for the semi-finals against the remaining nine singers. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 in Dublin she received 40 points for the song renamed as Samson and thus reached 13th place out of 20 participants. In 1985 she took on a role in the feature film Jumping by Jean-Pierre de Decker, to which she also sang the theme song Jump in the Dark . She later founded the Globe Show Center in Denderleeuw with her husband , which organizes major events for television stations, among other things.

Private

Starr is married to music producer Tony Winter, who wrote the songs Samson and Jump in the Dark for her, among others . In 1994 a daughter was born.
