Laarne is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region . It is located in the province of East Flanders and belongs to the Arrondissement of Dendermonde . The municipality has 12,370 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and an area of ​​32.07 km². In addition to the main town, the district of Kalken also belongs to the municipality.

Ghent is 9 kilometers to the west, Aalst 15 km to the south-east, Dendermonde 19 km to the east, Brussels 42 km to the south-east and Antwerp 44 km to the north-east.

The next motorway exits are only a few kilometers west of Heusden on the eastern Ghent motorway ring , in Beervelde in the north on the A14 / E 17 and in Wetteren in the south on the A10 / E 40 .

The nearest train stations are in Wetteren and Melle , and national express trains also stop in Ghent.

There is an international airport near the capital, Brussels.
