Parish Church of Saint Britius

The parish church of Sint Britius ( Brictius von Tours ) is located in the district of Etiquhove .

In 1116 the Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambertus von Liessies in northern France acquired patronage over the church.

Remains of a possibly Romanesque previous building (chapel) are still preserved in the west gable. The late Gothic west towers already existed before 1768 on what was then a two-aisled lower church with four bays and a square choir. In the years 1768 and 1837 to 1848 extensive reconstructions took place, which led to today's partly neoclassical appearance of the now three-aisled basilica. The portals were renewed in 1897 in neo-Gothic style. After war damage, the roof structure was repaired again in 1919 and 1949. Further repair work took place in 1953 and 1954.

The furnishings are mostly neoclassical (19th century). A new organ was built between 1776 and 1789 using old materials. It was changed in 1932 and restored in 1980 and 1981.
