Tom Dice
Tom Dice (born November 25, 1989 in Eeklo ; actually Tom Eeckhout ) is a Belgian singer-songwriter . He represented his home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Norway.
Life
Youth and X Factor
Tom Eeckhout, who grew up in Eeklo as the youngest of four siblings, took his stage name from the youth band The Dice , which he founded at the age of 15 and in which he played for some time. His musical career began earlier, however, because at the age of 8 he attended a music college and had his first guitar lessons. He started writing his first songs at the age of 12. His musical idols include Gavin DeGraw , Taylor Swift , Tyler Hilton , Damien Rice , The Kooks , Muse , Placebo and System of a Down .
In 2008 he took part in the Belgian version of the casting show X Factor and took second place, which made him better known in the Flemish part of Belgium. Maurice Engelen , known as a DJ under the pseudonym Praga Khan, was his mentor.
His singles released as part of this show were able to place themselves in the Belgian charts. The song Bleeding Love (originally sung by Leona Lewis ) was particularly successful .
He continued working with Engelen after the X Factor . He is now under contract with the Sonic Angel label founded by Engelen in spring 2010.
Eurovision Song Contest 2010
On November 25, 2009, the Flemish TV broadcaster VRT announced that Tom Dice would take part in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest for Belgium in Norway. This pre-selection of the candidate without an elimination competition was heavily criticized in public. The song Me and my guitar was presented to the public on the television program Eurosong 2010: Een song voor Tom Dice on March 7, 2010.
At the competition in Oslo he managed to win the first semifinals by a clear margin and thus qualify for the final. There he finally achieved sixth place, with Germany being the only country to award 12 points to the Belgian contribution. The entry was particularly well received by the juries, where it took second place, just two points behind the German entry. In the audience vote, however, he only reached 14th place.
