history

Offenbach Exhibition Center, main hall

In October 1949 a trade fair exhibition under the motto Leather Goods Industry and Marshall Plan took place for the first time in the Theater on Goethestrasse (today's Capitol ) right next to the current trade fair location. The first Offenbach leather goods trade fair followed in January 1950 . After the success of these exhibitions, the organizers decided to found a trade fair company. This was notarized on March 11, 1950. Offenbach's mayor, Hans Klüber, was president when it was founded . As the premises of the theater were soon no longer sufficient, additional stand space was created in a neighboring gym and in the auditorium of today's Offenbach am Main University of Design .

The first exhibition hall at the former location of the German Leather Museum was completed in the same year . Exhibition halls 2 and 3 followed in 1951 and 1953, and exhibition hall 1 was expanded by two additional floors in 1956. A fourth hall was built in 1980. For the 50th anniversary in 2000, all halls were renovated and rebuilt and the exhibition company was converted into a GmbH . The halls offer capacities between 1,200 and 17,000 m².
