Herbert Island ( aleutian : Chiĝulax̂ ) is an island of the Aleutians and belongs to the Islands of Four Mountains . It is located five kilometers west of Chuginadak Island .
The volcanic island of around ten kilometers in diameter reaches a height of 1280 meters. The highest point is the Herbert volcano with a two kilometer wide caldera .
The last eruptions of the volcano are believed to be in the early Holocene .
The island was named after the US politician Hilary A. Herbert (1834-1919).
