Chagulak is an island in the Islands of Four Mountains and is located in the central Aleutian Islands between Yunaska Island and Amukta Island . The shield volcano of the same name lies on top of it .
The volcanic island, about four kilometers long and 1142 meters high, was first described by Gavriil Andrejewitsch Sarytschew as Ostrov Chugul . To avoid confusion with the Chugul Island of the same name , the island was renamed Chagulak Island by the United States Geological Survey in 1931 .
A large part of the volcanic building is under water and Chagulak overlaps at its foot submarine with the neighboring volcano, Mount Amukta, seven kilometers away .
