Gawriil Andreevich Sarytschew ( Russian Гавриил Андреевич Сарычев , scientific transliteration Gavriil Andreevič Saryčev ; * 1763 ; †  June 30, 1831 ) was an officer in the Russian navy and hydrograph .

Together with the British Joseph Billings , who was in Russian service, he led an expedition from 1785 to 1794 to explore and develop the coasts and seas of northeast Siberia . In 1791 he sailed the coast of Kamchatka and Unalaska ( Aleutian Islands ). In 1808 Sarychev was promoted to vice admiral and in 1809 a member of the Petersburg Academy of Sciences . Shortly before his death in 1830 he was promoted to admiral.

In Germany , his book Journey through the northeastern part of Siberia, the Arctic Ocean and the Eastern Ocean was published in Gotha in 1854 .
