Adolf Gusserow
Adolf Ludwig Sigismund Gusserow (born July 8, 1836 in Berlin ; † February 6, 1906 there ) was a German gynecologist .
Life
Gusserow studied medicine at the universities of Berlin , Würzburg and Prague . In 1859 he received his doctorate , the habilitation took place in 1864 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . He then became a private lecturer there .
Gusserow was a full professor at the University of Utrecht from 1866 , but moved to the University of Zurich in 1867 , where he was rector in 1870/71 . In 1872 he became a professor at the University of Strasbourg and in 1878 full professor for obstetrics at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin. In 1880 he married Clara Oppenheim (1861–1944), the youngest daughter of the lawyer Otto Georg Oppenheim , maternal granddaughter of the banker Alexander Mendelssohn and great-great-granddaughter of the businessman and philosopher Moses Mendelssohn .
In 1870 Gusserow was the first to describe the rarer type of cervical cancer , adenocarcinoma ( adenoma malignum ). He published the findings in his work on Sarcomas of the Uterus .
In 1882 he became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Together with Christian Gerhard Leopold , Gusserow was editor of the journal Archiv für Gynäkologie .
His students included Alfred Dührssen (1862–1933) and Paul Zweifel (1848–1927).
Adolf Gusserow died unexpectedly on February 6, 1906 at the age of 69 in Berlin. He was buried in the local Trinity Cemetery I in front of the Hallesches Tor . In the lattice grave that has been preserved, a black granite obelisk with a base serves as a tombstone.
