Clermont-sur-Berwinne ( Walloon : Clairmont-so-Berwinne , Limburg : Klaerment op Berwien , literally: Clermont-an-der-Berwinne ) has been part of the Belgian municipality of Thimister-Clermont in the Walloon province of Liège since the municipal merger in 1977 . The village was included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia ( Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie ). Clermont lies on the Berwinne ( ndl. Berwijn ), a small tributary of the Meuse .
Worth seeing
The entire town center is worth seeing, especially the church from 1695 consecrated to Saint James the Elder , the former town hall spanning the street from 1888, where civil weddings are now popular and the “Place des Halles”. All that remains of the former castle of the Lords of Clermont is a wall with an archway. A few kilometers outside of the village is the manor "Château Crawhez", which has been preserved almost unchanged since it was built in 1551.
history
Until the dissolution of the Duchy of Limburg , Clermont belonged to the Hochbank Herve , one of five Limburg administrative and judicial districts. Like the rest of the duchy, Clermont was annexed by France in 1795 and incorporated into the Ourthe department that was formed at the time .
