Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie ( the most beautiful villages in Wallonia ) is a non-profit organization in Belgium that was founded in 1994 on the basis of the French association Les plus beaux villages de France . There are currently 31 villages in Wallonia that bear this label (August 2019).

Basic requirements for admission to this association are:

  • The village must show a rural character.
  • There must be at least one object in the village that is under monument protection
  • The village must have an architectural and urban development heritage of recognizable value, which is determined by the criteria laid down for this purpose
  • The administration and / or the local associations of the village must show the will to take care of the village heritage through concrete actions.

The objectives of the association are:

  • The authenticity to preserve the village
  • The elaboration of a permanent development plan
  • To strengthen the network of the villages classified as valuable heritage and to promote their common presentation to the outside world
  • To have the preservation of the characteristics of these typical villages guaranteed by various authorities
