history

The place is first mentioned in a document dated August 13, 1005, when the St. Adalbertstift in Aachen was awarded the neighboring villages of Soiron and Olne by Heinrich II . Soiron remained the property of the Aachen monastery until 1802. The beginnings of the church tower go back to the 11th century.

Around 1240 Soiron was integrated into the Duchy of Limburg . In 1692 the entire village, except for the church tower, was destroyed by an earthquake and was rebuilt in the following period. In addition to several town houses, the church (1723), the castle of Baron de Woelmont, which was modernized in 1860, and a public wash house (restored in 1983) date from this time. In 1797, under the rule of the French Republic , Soiron became an independent municipality in the Ourthe department .
