April Fools

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

April, april is a pop song with which Siw Malmkvist and Gunnar Wiklund won the Swedish preliminary round of Melodifestivalen for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 . The piece was written by Bobbie Ericson (lyrics) and Bo Eneby (music).

history

After winning the Melodifestivalen , however, SVT decided that not she, but Lill-Babs should compete at the 6th Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne, which this time took place in Cannes / France . Malmkvist had forgotten the text in the Swedish preliminary decision and instead had to warble, laugh and whistle. At the same time, she gestured to ask the audience to stop laughing. Subsequently, the press criticized her for “playing the monkey”. The song reached 14th place with two points. The orchestra was conducted by William Lind after Thore Ehrling was originally planned for it.

content

The song April , April is about the change from winter to spring and how nature wakes up again and takes its course happily and carefree, which is underlined by the whistling in the song and the matching melody.

In the text of the song, the love play of the girls and boys resembles the play of the west winds and the courtship song of the birds . The April fools jokes , with which one can fool so-called “stupid herrings ”, are placed in this row. In the course of the lyrics it turns out that the narrator of the text himself is in love again in spring, had already expected this beforehand and that this is the reason for the generally positive, playful description of the environment in April.

melody

The song begins with a verse followed by two alternating refrains . The sound of the verse and the first chorus with a faster melody merges into the other chorus with a slower, sedate melody when it comes to the narrator's infatuation. The faster passages, some of which are whistled, clearly predominate in the song.
