Gunnar Wiklund
Gunnar Wiklund (born August 17, 1935 in Luleå , † September 29, 1989 in Lysekil ) was a Swedish pop singer .
Life
Wiklund started singing at an early age and sang with various orchestras in the northern Swedish town of Luleå after finishing school. He was a car mechanic by profession and his debut took place in Luleå in 1952, together with the "Swingsters" orchestra. He recorded his first record the following year. In 1959 he had a hit with the hit Nu tändas åter ljusen i min lilla stad ( Now the lights are lit again in my small town ), 200,000 records were sold.
Wiklund's role models were Jim Reeves and Perry Como . Gunnar Wiklund's style was sentimental, but not exaggerated. He took part in four hit festivals with a total of six hits and 42 of his recordings made it into the Swedish hit lists. He got more hits in neighboring Norway. There Vi ska gå hand i hand was number one in the singles charts in 1968. A year later he made it into the Swedish charts with Kan jag hjälpa att jag älskar dig ännu .
Despite his early death in Sweden, Gunnar Wiklund has not been forgotten to this day. A best-of CD with the most popular Swedish hits was released in 2001 under the title Mest av allt: Gunnar Wiklund allt det bästa and reached the top 10 of the charts. In addition, Wiklund also had promotional offers and sang in German. For the Servas shoe factory, which published a small series of singles for advertising purposes, he sang the title: "Far from here in Alabama".
In the early 1970s, Wiklund developed severe dental problems that were later diagnosed as "Oral Galvanism". The cause of this sometimes controversial condition is said to be found in the amalgam fillings. At a relatively young age he was also affected by cancer, which he did not survive. Gunnar Wiklund is buried in the Stockholm Forest Cemetery, Skogskyrkogården , a cemetery that is a World Heritage Site .
