Carentinus
Carentinus was the fourth traditional bishop of Cologne .
Nothing has been passed on about the more precise dates of life, such as date of birth and date of death. Carentinus was sung in 565/566 by Venantius Fortunatus as the renovator of his church. The report of Venantius Fortunatus on the building activity of Bishop Carentinus was interpreted for a long time as if he had either built galleries in an existing church or built a new gallery church to absorb the growing influx, and was therefore probably due to the Merovingian expansion of the cathedral to acquire. However, Becht-Jördens argues for St. Gereon and interprets the verses of Venantius in Carmen III 14 as a reference to a dome mosaic with the holy and heavenly hosts who, united in a community with the believers, praise God.
