Peter Alan Waterman OBE (born January 15, 1947 in Coventry ) is an English music producer , songwriter , radio and club DJ , showmaster and president of the Coventry Bears rugby club .

Life and work

Pete Waterman went to Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School , but left it prematurely and worked for British Railways . He worked as a stoker , but when the location he worked at closed he decided, inspired by the Beatles, to pursue a career as a musician. He has been married three times and has four children.

In 1987 he founded the label Pete Waterman Limited ("PWL Records"), the first single was "I Just Can't Wait" by Mandy Smith , and his second release, I Should Be So Lucky by Kylie Minogue , was the best-selling single of the year in England. "PWL America" ​​was founded in 1989 and changed to Chemistry Records Ltd. in 1992 . renamed, but closed again in 1993. Also in the 1990s Waterman founded "PWL International" together with Warner Music . Today his company operates under the name Pete Waterman Entertainment (PWE).

From 1984 he cooperated very successfully with Mike Stock and Matt Aitken. As Stock Aitken Waterman , they produced numerous No. 1 hits and became one of the most formative music producing teams of the 1980s.

From 2001 to 2003 Pete Waterman was a jury member for Pop Idol . Waterman has worked with The Specials , Peter Tosh , Lee Perry , Susan Cadogan , Musical Youth and Nik Kershaw , and is a co-founder of Stock Aitken Waterman .

He wrote the English entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest , sung by Josh Dubovie .
