Kristína Peláková (born August 20, 1987 in Svidník ), better known by her stage name Kristina , is a Slovak singer.

biography

Kristina already began to sing, dance and play the piano in her childhood, which she mainly spent in Svidník in Slovakia. On the advice of her music teacher, she later attended the Conservatory in Košice . During her music studies, she often attended local music events and regularly attended the local jazz club. Here she made the acquaintance of Martin Kavulič, who would later become Kristina's producer. It was Kavulič who helped her to sign a record deal with the HoME Production label .

First successes

In 2007, she brought together with the rapper Opak the single Som tvoja out which not too much was well received. Although the initial enthusiasm gradually waned, it was possible to collect some respectable successes with further publications. With the titles Vráť mi tie hviezdy and Ešte váham from her first studio album .... ešte váham , which was released in November 2008, she was able to achieve two top ten placements in the airplay charts. The single Stonka , released in 2009, also hit the charts, where it came in at number four. The single was also able to place itself in the top 50 charts in the Czech Republic.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

In 2010 Kristina took part in the national Slovak preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the title Horehronie composed by Martin Kavulič and written by Kamil Peteraj . The song performed in the local language consisted of a mixture of pop and ethnic sounds. It was an ode to the eponymous Slovak landscape and tourism region Horehronie .

In the first semi-final of the preliminary decision, which was held on February 14, 2010, Kristina achieved first place with 31.2 percent of the audience's votes and 12 votes as the highest rating of the jury. It relegated its competitors to the following places with almost three times the share of the vote. Her greatest competitor became the singer Mista . In the second semi-final of the preliminary decision on February 21st, this won first place with 14.2 percent of the audience rating and 11 votes from the jury. In addition to Kristina and Mista, ten other artists were represented in the finals on February 27th.

With 37.6 percent of the audience and 11 jury votes, Kristina was only able to position herself in second place in the final of the Eurosong 2010, according to the jury - Mista received only 16.5 percent from the televoting , but received 12 from the jury Voices and thus one more voice than Kristina - which apparently did not reflect the audience's opinion of the best performance . Due to the greater sympathy with the audience, it was decided at the end of February to let Kristina take part in the 55th Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo .

On May 25, 2010 Kristina performed with honors in the first ESC semifinals . Despite being a co-favorite to win, she failed to qualify for the final. The singer took penultimate place out of 17 participants. In Slovakia, the title reached number one in the singles charts.
