action

In the restaurant The Green Spider singer Maria Moulin is shortly after their performance shot in her dressing room found. Next to her lies the unconscious waitress Yvonne. Nobody heard the shot correctly, as trumpeter Ted Wagner was playing his famous trumpet solo. The dancers Lilly and Alex heard a noise in the next room, but thought a chair had fallen over. Cloakroom lady Berta, on the other hand, seems to be drunk as always. Bar owner Elena is out of the question as the perpetrator, as she was in her office, but it has no connecting door to Maria's cloakroom. During the events, reporter Peter Thorsten is in the bar. In consultation with the investigator, Commissioner Bock, he promises not to publish anything in the newspaper about the case.

Numerous people seem to have secrets in the Green Spider . Alex bribes Berta with alcohol so that she doesn't reveal anything: He has a relationship with the waitress Anita that he wants to keep secret from his fiancée Lilly. Elena and Ted Wagner were once a couple before Ted went abroad. After his return he met Maria, but Elena also wanted to continue the relationship. Peter Thorsten finds out that Elena and Maria had known each other for years, although Elena pretended to Bock that Maria was almost unknown to her. Elena makes it clear that she hated Maria. If Bock initially assumed suicide, he recognizes through the fingerprint-free pistol that a murder did occur. Meanwhile, Peter finds out that there is a secret passage between Elena's office and Maria's cloakroom.

Yvonne, who looks very nervous, also believes in murder. She finally confides in Peter: five years ago, her mother died very much like Maria. At that time only she believed in murder and was put in a psychiatric hospital for two years. Shortly before her mother's death, she had heard another person in her room whistling a characteristic melody. Maria knew the melody too, so Yvonne asked her to speak to her the afternoon before her death and told her about her mother's death five years ago. Maria had turned pale and announced that she wanted to “break up” that evening. She whistled the tune when she went into her dressing room the evening after her performance.

The cloakroom lady, Berta, knows who the killer is and asks Peter to talk to him in half an hour. Yvonne brings the new singer Penny champagne and secretly branches a glass for Berta. Shortly afterwards, again during Ted Wagner's trumpet solo, Berta dies. There was cyanide in the champagne . At Berta there is a threatening letter that was written on Yvonne's stationery. Yvonne is now considered suspect, but Peter has doubts. He covers them and at the same time publishes an article in his newspaper in which he depicts Yvonne as a murderer. Since the case is officially resolved, the Green Spider is allowed to reopen. However, like Peter, Commissioner Bock knows that Yvonne is not the murderer. Rather, he believes that trumpeter Ted Wagner committed the deeds, even if he has not yet been able to convict him, since Ted apparently always blew the trumpet during the murders, even when the stage was darkened and only his trumpet was lit. Everyone is on the alert for the trumpet solo during the reopening ceremony; Peter lights the stage in the middle of the play. A double blows the trumpet instead of Ted. Ted, on the other hand, has tracked down Yvonne backstage, who is holding him in check with a gun. He admits to having killed her mother because he couldn't stand her love anymore. Maria had to die because she had become suspicious, while Elena's death was supposed to burden Yvonne above all. Ted tries to kill Yvonne, but is overwhelmed by Peter and Bock.

Yvonne and Peter get married. The green spider is taken over by Hazy Osterwald and reopened as a blue bean .
