Dieter Wedekind
Dieter Wedekind (born June 17, 1922 in Berlin as Dietrich Helmut Hermann Wedekind , † October 18, 2014 in Kirchberg in Tirol ) was a German cameraman .
biography
Wedekind returned from captivity in 1947 and in the same year found his first job as a volunteer in the laboratory (photocopier) at DEFA . Also in 1947, the head cameraman Friedl Behn-Grund brought him in as his assistant and let Wedekind work on DEFA productions such as The Strange Adventures of Mr Fridolin B. (1947), Affaire Blum (1948), Die Buntkarierten (1948) and Der Rat der Gods (1950) to work on. Dieter Wedekind assisted Bruno Mondi at Der Biberpelz in 1949 . Born in Berlin, he later followed his mentor Behn-Grund to West German film and worked as an assistant and camera operator or simple cameraman on films such as Dawn (1954), Before God and People (1955), Anastasia, the last daughter of the Tsar (1956), Ohne Night comes to you (1956), Stresemann (1956), Like a storm wind (1956) and Confessions of the impostor Felix Krull (1957). Most recently Wedekind worked several times at the side of his assistant colleague Richard Weihmayr .
In 1957 Dieter Wedekind made his debut as chief cameraman. Up until the beginning of the 1970s, Wedekind mainly photographed simple, but also sordid comedies with low artistic demands, several times for the Music House production company . During this time he also found employment in television (e.g. The Mexican Civil War , Before the Fathers Die Sons ) and in advertising and photographed a number of ambitious TV documentaries such as The Spanish Civil War (1969) and Friedrich III ... “Died as an emperor” (1970).
At the age of 65, Dieter Wedekind retired into private life (first to Munich , later to Tyrol ).
