Heinz Schachtner

Heinz Schachtner (* 14. January 1920 in Oak Village , † 21st February 2014 ) was a German trumpeter , composer and author , who as an accomplished soloist, especially in the light music became known.

life and work

After studying at the Trapp Conservatory in Munich (1935–1940) and first appearances in the Munich coffee house scene, Schachtner celebrated his first major success as a soloist in 1954 when he recorded the theme song from the film From here to eternity (Damn in all eternity) achieved a TOP 10 success and was honored as the first European soloist with a "Golden Trumpet". He could u. a. with the "midnight blues" by Franz Grothe from the film Always when the day begins .

Also in 1954 he published the book "jazz-trompeten-schule" - from the beginning to free improvisation (edition dux-münchen, TRAUT, order no. 210).

Schachtner discovered u. a. Jack White, whom he referred to the producer Hans Bertram on the recommendation of Hennes Weisweiler.

From 1949 to the 1980s worked Schachtner, who worked in the following years mainly as a studio musician in various Cologne ensembles, including next to Rick Kiefer , Klaus Osterloh , Jon Eardley and Jupp Keuser principal trumpet in the WDR Big Band under Headed by Adalbert Luczkowski and Werner Müller .

From the collaboration with the record producer Hans Bertram and arranger Werner Twardy , the long-playing record trumpet in gold emerged in 1966 , the success of which established a series of sequels.

Schachtner was buried on March 4, 2014 in the Deutz cemetery in Cologne-Poll .
