Jon Eardley
Jon Eardley (born September 30, 1928 in Altoona , Pennsylvania , † April 1, 1991 in Verviers , Belgium ) was an American jazz trumpeter who was active in Europe for a long time.
Eardley began playing the trumpet at the age of eleven. From 1946 to 1949 he was a member of a band in the US Air Force. Then he played with Buddy Rich and Gene Williams . In 1954 he appeared with Phil Woods in New York, on whose prestige albums such as Pot Pie he participated. He was best known for his collaboration with Gerry Mulligan in his piano-less quartet and sextet between 1954 and 1957.
In 1963 he moved to Belgium, 1969 to Germany, where he a. a. played in the WDR radio dance orchestra and in Harald Banters WDR - Media Band . He taught at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne . In Cologne he also performed with Chet Baker .
