Rocky Knauer

Joachim "Rocky" Knauer (born January 6, 1951 in Hanerau-Hademarschen ) is a German modern jazz bassist .

Life

Knauer grew up in Vancouver and had a musical education from the age of fourteen. He began as a guitarist in Canadian rock and soul groups , switched to the electric bass after returning to Germany in 1971 and to the double bass in 1974 . From 1974 to 1977 studied Knauer at the Munich Jazz School of Joe Haider . Since 1975 he played in the group Music Community (with Alex Bally , Larry Porter , Frank St. Peter , Hermann Breuer and Lee Harper ). Then he played with Dusko Goykovich , Ken Rhodes , Leszek Zadlo , Mal Waldron , Tom van der Geld , Al Porcino and Klaus Weiss (LPs Child's Prayer , On Tour ). Since 1979 he has toured several times with Wolfgang Lackerschmid and Chet Baker (album Welcome Back , 1987). He also worked with Doug Hammond , Art Farmer , Paul Grabowsky , Rudi Fuesers , Günther Klatt , Dave Burrell , Bob Degen , George Greene , Helge Schneider and Charly Antolini . He leads a quartet (with, inter alia, Allen Blairman ). He is also involved in recordings by Allan Praskin , Chico Freeman , Christian Willisohn, Hermann Martlreiter , Beate Kittsteiner , Ruth Young, Stefanie Schlesinger , Tobias Meinhart , the Cotton Field Blues Band and the Clarinet Jazz Quartet .
