Nick Stabulas

Nicholas Stabulas (* 18th December 1929 in New York ; † 6. February 1973 in Great Neck , NY ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Stabulas began his career in commercial music; from 1954 to 1957 he then worked for Phil Woods . In addition, he was a busy sideman in recording sessions in the 1950s; he played with Jon Eardley (1955/56), Jimmy Raney (1955-57), Eddie Costa (1956), Friedrich Gulda (1956), George Wallington (1956/57), Al Cohn (1956/57, 1960), Zoot Sims (1957), Gil Evans ( Gil Evans and Ten , 1957), Mose Allison (1957/58), Carmen McRae (1958) and Don Elliott (1958). In the 1960s, he worked with Chet Baker , Kenny Drew , Bill Evans , Warne Marsh, and Lennie Tristano . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 53 recording sessions between 1954 and 1966.

Stabulas died in a traffic accident near Great Neck in February 1973.
