Media band

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Media Band (initially the Harald Banter Orchestra or Harald Banter Ensemble ) was a band of upscale light music with up to twelve musicians at times, who also functioned as soloists.

history

Harald Banter , born as Gerd von Wysocki, switched to WDR as a program designer in 1952 and founded the formation in the same year. In April 1952 the WDR broadcast the first program with Harald Banter and his ensemble . Since March 1955 there was a fixed production contract that guaranteed the existence of the formation, which was now often referred to as the Harald Banter Orchestra , by the program management. She played jazz , dance music and sophisticated light music , sometimes together with the station's symphony orchestra. In the following years the formation came together for productions at irregular intervals. Since 1962, the ensemble has been operating as the Media Band of West German Broadcasting and was one of the station's regular groups. Banter led the band until 1974; Between 1974 and 1976 the bass player Andreas Scheer was at the head of the ensemble; after that it worked with guest conductors. Banter led the ensemble again from 1979 until it was dissolved on August 1, 1982.

The band played a lot on television programs, such as dance class series, Permit you? and dance party with the Fern couple , but also in the radio quiz fun is a must with Hans Rosenthal and radio crime productions like Paul Temple . She was also involved in the performance of New Music, for example in 1970 under the direction of York Höller at the radio opera The Bathtub by Manfred Niehaus .

The film music Melissa by Peter Thomas , recorded with the ensemble, reached number 4 in the German charts in 1966. After a few more individual recordings that had previously been published on samplers , a CD Cologne Swing and Ballads was released in 2007 with recordings by the Media Band from 1977–1981, followed by Banter: Swinging Evergreens .
