life and work

Hasse Ekman was the son of the actor Gösta Ekman and Greta Ekman (née Sundström). As early as 1924 he appeared in a film for the first time (Unge greven ta'r flickan och priset) , and in 1938 he made his theatrical debut. He made his most successful films as a director, actor and author in the 1940s and early 1950s, many of them with his then wife and fellow actor Eva Henning . Due to the joint producer Lorens Marmstedt, he also worked in prison , an early film by Ingmar Bergman , for which he appeared in front of the camera three times. His works from the mid-1950s still found their audiences, but were increasingly viewed by critics as routine work. In 1964 Ekman directed his last feature film, Äktenskapsbrottaren , before moving permanently to Spain , where he died in 2004.

Hasse Ekman was married four times, from 1938 to 1945 to Agneta Wrangel, from 1946 to 1953 to Eva Henning , from 1953 to 1972 to Tutta Rolf and from 1972 to his death with Viveca Trädgårdh. His five children, Gösta Ekman junior (1939-2017), Krister Ekman (* 1940), Mikael Ekman (* 1943), Stefan Ekman (* 1944) and Fam Ekman (* 1946) were or are also active in the film business.
