Career start

Gracia Baur became known through her participation in the first season of the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar in 2002. There she took fifth place behind Alexander Klaws , Juliette Schoppmann , Daniel Küblböck and Vanessa Struhler .

After leaving the casting show, Baur received a recording contract with BMG and released the album Intoxicated , from which two singles were released. I don't think so! , the first release, reached number three in the German charts, and the second single, I Believe in Miracles , reached number 12. The album itself made it to number ten on the German album charts and sold more than 50,000 copies. Baur also sang the song Gods of Eternity (originally by Tina Turner ) for the soundtrack of the Disney film Bear Brothers . Because of poor sales figures, BMG canceled the record deal in 2004.

2005: Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

Baur signed another record deal; this time on Bros Music , the label of David Brandes . In November 2004 she published there as a member of 4 United as part of a charity project for Doctors Without Borders with Daniel Küblböck , Nektarios and Stephanie Brauckmeyer a single entitled Don't Close Your Eyes . This came in at number 18 in the German single charts. In Austria, the single rose to position 50 and stayed in the charts for a total of six weeks.

At the end of January 2005, the title Run & Hide was published in collaboration with David Brandes . Due to the success of this single (20th place in the first week after it appeared in the Media Control single charts), she was given the opportunity to take part in the German preliminary decision for the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest . The single can be heard on the second studio album Passion .

She won the competition in the jump-off against the duo Nicole Süßmilch and Marco Matias with 52.8 percent of the votes, which were submitted via SMS and televoting . With Süßmilch she met a former competitor from Germany is looking for the superstar . Both her and Süßmilch's text came from the pen of Bernd Opinion .

On May 21, 2005, Baur performed at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest . In front of 150 million TV viewers from all over Europe , it came in last with four points behind Spain , Great Britain and France among the 24 contributions. Only Monaco and Moldova each awarded two points for the German contribution. It was the worst German placement since 1995 , when Stone & Stone also finished last for Germany with just one point. They also had mid-February 2005 at the music video I Know by Vanilla Ninja a guest appearance.

Chart manipulation scandal

In April 2005 the suspicion of chart manipulation by their producer, who allegedly employed a widespread network of CD buyers, was initially confirmed. An artificially good chart placement should be achieved through the massive buy-ups. The Federation of the Phonographic Industry and the market research company Media Control decided for this reason, their single Run & Hide ruled out and more CDs of various artists for at least three weeks on the charts.

David Brandes admitted in the Johannes B. Kerner Show on April 19, 2005 that he had had 2000 copies bought in the first three weeks after the CD Run & Hide was released. Brandes claims that this is common practice in the industry and that he would put his artist at a competitive disadvantage if he hadn't. Gracia herself denies the allegations that she knew about the purchases. Immediately after this broadcast, Media Control decided to ban David Brandes' titles from the charts for another three months.

Although the qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest was legally unaffected by the chart manipulation, large parts of the German music industry demanded Gracia's resignation from the ESC. However, she refused and continued - in contrast to Vanilla Ninja - the collaboration with Brandes.

After the song contest

After the final of the ESC, Baur retired until autumn 2005, when he returned to the music market with the singles When the Last Tear's Been Dried and Never Been . When the Last Tear's Been Dried came to number 32 in the German charts and was therefore more successful than Never Been, which came to number 39. The album Passion followed on November 25, 2005.

After a nine-month hiatus, Baur made a fresh start in December 2006 with Marvin Broadie, the former frontman of the Soultans in Project Xantoo . With the song Cos I Believe , they entered the official single charts at number 39. Then she made up her Abitur. On December 4, 2009, the single Christmas Is Calling was released . She has appeared on several TV shows, including The Perfect Celebrity Dinner in March 2010 , which she won. Baur planned to release a new album for spring 2010; the song Crash Tumble Breakdown was planned as the first single . Both were discarded.

In November 2012, Baur stated in an interview with Promiflash.de that he had consciously withdrawn from the public. At that time, Baur was working as the HR manager for a management consultancy. Baur lives near Basel with her producer David Brandes.

In December 2014, after a five-year break, she released the official song of the Four Hills Tournament 2014/15 Magic Moments . Until October 2018 she trained as a nurse .
