4 United was a band project of the four German pop singers Daniel Küblböck , Gracia Baur , Nektarios Bamiatzis and Stephanie Brauckmeyer, which was started in 2004 by the music producer David Brandes .
His idea was to record a benefit single with some participants in the casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar in the run-up to Christmas. Together they created the song Don't Close Your Eyes . For every CD sold, EUR 0.50 went to the aid organization Doctors Without Borders .
The single was released on November 22, 2004 and entered the German single charts two weeks later, where it stayed for nine weeks. The highest position in the chart was 18th place. In Austria, the single made it to 50th place and remained in the charts for a total of six weeks.
