The first season of the German singing casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar was broadcast from November 9, 2002 to March 8, 2003 on the RTL television program.
The first season was moderated by Michelle Hunziker and Carsten Spengemann . The jury consisted of the producer , composer and singer Dieter Bohlen , the radio presenter Thomas Bug , the music journalist Shona Fraser and Thomas M. Stein from BMG-Ariola . The magazine was moderated by Peer Kusmagk and Tamara Countess von Nayhauß .
The final show of the first German season on March 8, 2003 achieved an average audience rating of 12.8 million (with peak values of up to 15.01 million).
The marketing of the young singers after the end of the season was also initially successful. All five winners of the first season reached the top 10 in the German single charts in 2003, Alexander Klaws and Daniel Küblböck even reached number 1 . The single We Have a Dream , sung by all participants in the first season , was the best-selling single in Germany from January 13 to February 17, 2003. Later on, the album United also brought profits again due to the production of Deutschland sucht den Superstar .
After the auditions, a total of nine shows followed, each with a specific motto. After each of these shows, one of the candidates was eliminated. In the first two motto shows ( Mein Superstar and Love Songs ), as RTL announced after the end of the season, Judith Lefeber was clearly ahead of Daniel Küblböck. The eventual winner Alexander Klaws started in fourth place and even fell back to fifth place in the second show. However, after two broadcasts, Lefeber decided not to take part in the competition. Nicole Süßmilch , who had already left the company, took her place . Küblböck won the third motto show (Hits 2002) (before Juliette Schoppmann ). And the fourth motto show (musical) , Gracia Baur won (ahead of Küblböck), while Schoppmann came second to last in this category, which she had previously practiced professionally. Küblböck was ahead of Klaws in the fifth and sixth motto shows ( hits from the 80s and big band ). In the last three shows ( disco , film music and finals) Klaws led Schoppmann. With 70.2 percent to 29.8 percent of the vote, Klaws won the final.
