The sixteenth season of the German singing casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar was broadcast from January 5 to April 27, 2019 on the RTL television program. At the side of Dieter Bohlen the new jurors Oana Nechiti , Xavier Naidoo and Pietro Lombardi acted . As in the two previous years, the motto “No Limits” applied; This allowed candidates to take part in the casting without stylistic restrictions, although the age limit of 30 years still applied. Davin Herbrüggen received 100,000 euros and a record deal with Universal Music .
procedure
After twelve casting episodes, recorded on the Drachenfels near Königswinter , in the Seehotel am Kaiserstrand in Lochau and in the Hanse Gate Hamburg, 120 candidates went to Ischgl for a recall . They initially appeared in groups of 10, and those who progressed from this appeared in groups of three or four. 20 of them - plus the four winners of the Golden Jury CDs and Jessica Martins Reis, who was unable to play in season 15 due to illness - made it into the Thailand recall. Former candidates Juliette Schoppmann and Prince Damien accompanied the recalls as vocal coaches . Ten of the candidates were able to qualify for the live shows. There were a total of four live shows, in the last of the four, the final, there were four candidates left to fight for victory.
Thailand recall
In the Khao Sok National Park , the candidates initially formed eight almost exclusively same-sex vocal trios , and in the following sequence the jury was presented with ten almost exclusively mixed-sex duets. Six trios sang in the third international episode in Khao Lak . In the fourth international episode, the last 16 candidates had to compete in eight same-sex singing duels, as in the previous season, the losers of which were to be eliminated, while the winners were intended to contest the theme shows. The jury did not adhere to these regulations and let both duelists go on four times and none of them twice, so that, as in most seasons before, ten superstar aspirants started again in the motto shows.
