Ava Max (* 16th February 1994 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin as Amanda Ava Koci ) is an American singer who in 2018 through the song but Sweet Psycho became known.

Childhood and youth

She was born in Milwaukee in 1994 and has a brother. Her parents come from Saranda and Tirana in Albania . You left Albania in the 1990s. After Ava's birth, the family moved to Virginia . Her childhood was musically shaped by her mother's love of opera . Already in school she appeared on stage as a singer and counts Madonna , Gwen Stefani , Fergie , Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera among her musical influences. At the age of 14, she asked the American musician Pharrell Williams for help in getting into the music business. For this she later moved to Los Angeles .

Until 2017: musical beginnings

In the mid-2000s she became active on the social network Myspace . Under the name Amanda Kay she published a few cover versions there as well as her own songs, which were produced by Kevin Rudolf . An EP consisting of six songs includes the songs I Need You and More Than Words Can Say , which are now viewed on YouTube by several thousand. The EP was also made available on iTunes, among others. In 2013, two collaborations in the field of electro house appeared with the Austrian producer and Tim-Tim member Fritz Jerey. She also came into contact with the producer team around Dr. Luke . The singer appeared here for the first time under the stage name AVA. While the first production Satellite was only released on SoundCloud, the second song Take Away the Pain was released as a single in May 2013 via Koci Media and Hizz Media Group.

Between 2014 and 2015 she met the Canadian music producer and later life partner Henry Russell Walter alias Cirkut , who produces the songs Spinning Around and Come Home with her . The pop songs were released under the name Ava Koci via SoundCloud. In July 2015, the Canadian DJ & producer duo Project 46 released their official studio album Beautiful , which included a remixed version of the song Take Away the Pain , on which producer DallasK participated. The piece was viewed over 300,000 times on Spotify .

The song Jet Set was released in February 2016 . In July 2016 she released the song Anyone But You as AVA , also via SoundCloud. Try Again was planned as the third song, but the release was withdrawn despite the finished video and the marketing campaign. In August 2017, the American DJ and producer Le Youth released the piece Clap Your Hands , on which she can be heard as a guest musician. The song is her first official single release since Take Away the Pain in 2013 and at the same time her first release under her artist name Ava Max. Due to the great attention the song received on Spotify (over 7 million views) and YouTube (over 1.5 million views), it was an important stepping stone for the singer. In December 2017, the song appeared Not Your Barbie Girl as another SoundCloud upload that a cover of Aqua's Barbie Girl is from the year 1997, which mainly by the frequent use in TikTok - video became known.

From 2018: breakthrough with Sweet but Psycho

In 2018 she signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records ; in April of the same year the single My Way was released . Cirkut remained their producer. The track reached number 38 on the Romanian airplay charts. In May 2018, the song Slippin , which was only released on YouTube and SoundCloud and was recorded in collaboration with Gashi, followed. In June 2018, her second guest post appeared as a feature on the single Into Your Arms by US rapper Witt Lowry . In July, the song Salt was released on SoundCloud . In August 2018 she released the song Not Your Barbie Girl, which had already been released on SoundCloud the previous year, as an official single. The song attracted particular attention as a promotional song for the video platform TikTok , which was just establishing itself .

Also in August 2018, she released Sweet but Psycho as an official single. The track became a success, especially at Spotify, and made it onto the Swedish music charts in mid-August 2018 . By October 2018, the song climbed to number one there . Then the piece also hit the charts in other Scandinavian countries. In Germany it reached the top position within four weeks. A short time later it also rose to number one in the singles charts in Switzerland, Austria and the United Kingdom. On the studio album 7 released by David Guetta in September 2018 , she sang Let It Be Me . The track contains a sample of Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega from 1987. In October 2018 Max released the song Make Up in collaboration with Vice and Jason Derulo .

After Sweet but Psycho had developed into a commercial success in the USA in early January 2019 and was among other things at the top of Billboard Club songs, the follow-up title So Am I was released in March 2019 .

In August 2019, the premiere of their new song Torn took place. The official music video received more than 28 million views in the first two months. In December 2019, she released her song Salt, which she had previously published on YouTube in 2018.
