Colors of the Wind is a song from 1995. It was written by Alan Menken (music) and Stephen Schwartz (text) for the film Pocahontas . In the film tries Pocahontas , John Smith to convince them that the beauty of nature is worth preserving and should not be destroyed for financial interest. The song is sung by Judy Kuhn , who was the singing voice of Pocahontas. In the German version it is called Das Farbenspiel des Winds and is sung by Alexandra Wilcke .

Colors of the Wind won an Oscar and a Golden Globe , both for Best Movie Song. The song also won a Grammy for Best Song Written Specifically for Film or Television .

Cover versions

In the credits of the original version of Pocahontas , a cover version by Vanessa Williams is played. This version was released as a single. It hit the UK charts on September 16, 1995 and stayed there for eight weeks. Place 21 was reached. The single hit the US charts on June 24, 1995 and stayed there for 23 weeks. 4th place was reached. Vanessa Williams also has a Spanish version of the song called Colores en el viento.

A cover version by Jennifer Rush under the title Das Farbenspiel des Winds could be heard in the credits of the German version of the film. The single for it was in the German charts for six weeks from January 8, 1996 and reached number 80. It was similar with Native in France (title: L'air du vent ), which was in the German charts for 15 weeks from November 25, 1995 French charts and reached number 9. Harajuku released a cover version as a single in 1995. Lea Salonga recorded a cover version on her album Songs from the Screen .
