◀   Season 16 Season 18   ▶

The seventeenth season of the German singing talent show Deutschland sucht den Superstar was broadcast from January 4 to April 4, 2020 on the RTL television program. As in the previous year, the jury consisted of Dieter Bohlen , Oana Nechiti , Xavier Naidoo and Pietro Lombardi ; Before the start of the live show, Xavier Naidoo was excluded from the jury and replaced by Florian Silbereisen from the second live show . As before, the motto “No Limits” applied; with which candidates could participate in the casting without stylistic restrictions. The age limit was still 30 years.

The 26-year-old Ramon Roselly - who competed under his real name Ramon Kaselowsky until the finals - was chosen by the audience as the winner, winning 100,000 euros and a record deal with Universal Music .

procedure

After twelve casting episodes, recorded on the Drachenfels near Königswinter , on the Forggensee near Füssen and in the Hanse Gate Hamburg, the 126 candidates who had advanced were called to Sölden . They initially appeared in larger groups, those who progressed from them then in two, three or four groups. 22 of them - plus the four winners of the Golden CDs - received a ticket to South Africa . There they were supported by the vocal coaches Juliette Schoppmann and André Franke . After the foreign recall, a candidate was disqualified because of a rule violation. The remaining eleven candidates competed in an additional recall in the Duisburg Landscape Park for seven places in the live shows. Groups of three or two men and women sang, after which the jury sent four participants to the live shows. The remaining seven superstar aspirants had to complete solo appearances, which led to the decision on the remaining three places. In the three live shows before the final, one candidate was eliminated, as was the case in the first two rounds of the final. In the final duel with the same song, the winner was determined.

South Africa recall

In the opening sequence, the 13 female and male candidates each appeared in two quartets and one trio. There was also a mixed quartet. The setting for the first two episodes was the Tsitsikamma National Park . In the third episode, the location changed to the beach in the Cape Town district of Camps Bay . In the fourth episode, the remaining 18 candidates performed seven mixed-sex and one female duet. Since a candidate had previously dropped out voluntarily, his singing partner sang alone. Before the jury's verdict, another participant announced that he did not see the format as suitable for himself. These last appearances in South Africa took place at the Boschendal winery in Franschhoek . Eleven candidates advanced to the next round. Since Dieter Bohlen found an even number cheaper, Kathrin Bibert, who had already left, was allowed to join again.

The first live show aired on March 14, 2020. Before the solo appearances there was a group song by the boys, Blinding Lights from The Weeknd and by the girls In my memory from Silbermond . For the first time, the remaining three jurors were able to give a live show candidate 5% additional votes with one CD each. Dieter Bohlen, however, "symbolically" awarded his CD to Alexander Klaws. The presenter and first DSDS winner sang the DSDS anthem We Have a Dream with the then runner-up Juliette Schoppmann at the end of the show, with Dieter Bohlen and Pietro Lombardi . Because of the corona pandemic , only family members and friends were allowed as spectators in the hall.

final

In the first round, each of the finalists performed a song that was “new” to them, after which the candidate with the fewest calls had to be eliminated. In the second round, the three participants sang a song they had already presented in this season, after which another candidate had to leave the stage. The singers chosen by the audience for the last duel performed the same final song composed by Dieter Bohlen. Ramon Kaselowsky, who this time competed under his stage name Ramon Roselly , won the race.
