history

Place name

The name is of Sorbian origin and derived from Old Sorbian čiŕn- ("black", cf. Upper Sorbian čorny ), whereby a derivation from the name for a certain berry or cherry variety is also possible, regional Sorbian čornica or Czech černice . Compare places like Czernic in Poland and Zschernitzsch in Thuringia .

timeline

Finds on the outskirts of Zschernitz indicate a large-scale ceramic ( Neolithic ) settlement on the site about 7000 years ago. A male clay figure found during excavations is known as Adonis von Zschernitz . The clay figure is exhibited in the State Museum of Archeology in Chemnitz . The place was first mentioned in a document in 1263. In the 14th and 15th centuries, several plague epidemics claimed many lives. Because of bad harvests and high feudal taxes , many residents emigrated.

Zschernitz and Nösselwitz, which belonged to the village, belonged to the electoral office of Delitzsch until 1815 . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the towns became part of Prussia and in 1816 they were assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which they belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Zschernitz was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

At the beginning of the 19th century, the organized cultivation of sugar beets , wheat , barley , potatoes and fodder plants took place in Zschernitz . The area's fertile soil and progress in cultivation methods resulted in high yields. A manor was built in the village, which subsequently shaped the village. In the 20th century, growing industrialization began in the neighboring cities and the large chemical companies located there created apartments in Zschernitz for their employees. After all, mainly workers and employees from Wolfen, Bitterfeld , Halle (Saale) , Delitzsch and Leipzig live in the village . On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Doberstau was incorporated. From 1970 the farms are incorporated into a production cooperative ( LPG ). Large livestock farms were set up in Zschernitz.

Large-scale lignite mining began in the Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine around 1980 . The lowering of the groundwater level caused massive ecological damage in the area. On January 1, 1994, Zschernitz merged to become part of the Neukyhna community . With the dissolution of the Neukyhna community, the place came to Wiedemar on January 1, 2013.

Archaeological digs

In 2003, MITGAS laid a natural gas pipeline on the outskirts , which is why an extensive agreement was reached in advance with the Saxon State Office for Archeology to finance excavations in line with the polluter pays principle . During the excavation work on the route, a settlement from the Neolithic Age was discovered . Extensive remains of the settlement were found and documented. On August 19, 2003, in the course of the archaeological excavations , Adonis von Zschernitz , named after the place where it was found, was found in a settlement pit of the younger linear ceramics . It is about the 7000 year old torso of a clay figure. The approximately 8 cm high fragment has been preserved from about the navel down to below the buttocks. It is the oldest small sculpture of the Central European Neolithic with clearly male gender characteristics.
