history

Local history

Kölsa was first mentioned in a document in 1251 as "Colsowe". It is believed, however, that the place is a few years older.

The village had extensive forest holdings with around 100 hectares, which brought it some prosperity. According to tradition, a large part of the area is based on a gift from the nobleman Nikolaus von Udell . This is also said to have financed the construction of the Kölsa village church, so that since then the so-called "Nikolauskirmes" has been celebrated every year in the village on December 6th and 7th. Already in 1670 the villagers were approved by the Liebenwerda office to celebrate this festival.

In 1589, twenty-three possessed men lived in Kölsa, all of whom were subject to interest at the Liebenwerda office in Saxony . The village had its own dinging chair and an inheritance court as a fief.

In 1994 80 hectares of forest, which had become public property in 1952, were returned to the community.

The incorporation into the city of Falkenberg / Elster took place together with Beyern, Rehfeld, Großrössen and Kleinrössen on December 31, 2001.
