Schmerkendorf is a district of the town of Falkenberg / Elster in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg and is located immediately south of the city center on the L672 state road.
history
Schmerkendorf was first mentioned in a document around 1251. The current place name probably originated from the first form "the Markgrevindorph", which means Markgrafendorf in High German and indicates the ownership structure.
When four farms in Schmerkendorf were devastated around 1400, the place got a manor . From this a Vorwerk later arose , with which a "Herr von Strauchwitz" was enfeoffed . In 1931 the Schmerkendorfer manor was split up and a large resettlement took place. The distillery , which was built in 1864 after the division of the manor and which was the landmark of the manor , was blown up in 1938.
In 1835 the village had 45 houses with 227 inhabitants. There were 28 horses, 145 cattle, 475 sheep and 17 pigs.
On July 25, 1952, Schmerkendorf, together with the towns of Drasdo , Falkenberg / Elster , Kölsa , Munich / Elster , Langennaundorf , and Uebigau and Wiederau, was reclassified from the Liebenwerda district to the new Herzberg district as part of a comprehensive administrative reform in the GDR .
Administrative affiliation
The village was part of the Liebenwerda office from which the Liebenwerda district later emerged. After 1952, Schmerkendorf was affiliated with the Herzberg district, which then became part of the Elbe-Elster district in 1990.
It was incorporated into the town of Falkenberg / Elster on October 26, 2003.
