Großrössen is a district of the town of Falkenberg / Elster in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg and is located about six kilometers north of the city center on the L67 state road . The “ Schweinert ” nature reserve and the “Elsteraue” nature reserve are in the immediate vicinity of the district .

history

The street and dead end village Großrössen was first mentioned in a document in 1251 as Rossin . The place is believed to be of Slavic origin. Other forms of the name are grosin Rosin (1376), Grosse Roysin (1419), grosse Roßin (1474) and Grosse Rössen (1577). The church, built around 1500, was a subsidiary of the parish church in Kleinrössen . Therefore Kleinrössen was probably the more important place at the time when both villages were formed.

Even before the Thirty Years' War there was a manor in the village.

The manor owner Rittmeister de Lettre, to whom the manor in Neudeck also belonged in the mid-19th century , had the bridge over the Black Elster built in 1905, which is now a listed building. The areas of the manor in Großrössen (Dorfstrasse 1) were divided up among 30 resettlers and farm workers as part of the land reform that began in 1945 .

On March 22, 1970, Kleinrössen, east of the Black Elster, was incorporated, and on December 31, 2001, the two places were incorporated into Falkenberg together with Beyern , Kölsa and Rehfeld .

In 1995, a village development plan was drawn up with the active participation of the local residents. Ideas, concepts and plans were introduced into this plan and implemented in citizens' assemblies. The village character should not be lost in any way. In the course of the village renewal, old farmhouses were reconstructed, roads and sidewalks were expanded and agricultural roads were constructed. In 2002 and 2008 the district took part in the district competition "Our village has a future".

Administrative affiliation

Großrössen belonged to the Electoral Saxon , then the Royal Saxon Office of Schweinitz until 1806 and was incorporated into the Schweinitz district in 1816 . From 1952 the place belonged to the district of Herzberg , which then became part of the district of Elbe-Elster in 1993 .

Culture and sights

Club life and regular events

Regular cultural events in the district are the annual village and homeland festival, which takes place on the local sports field, the summer festival and the Oktoberfest. These are usually co-designed by the Großrössen women's choir and the Großrössen brass musicians, a brass band made up of local musicians.

Other local clubs are the “Association for Ecological Education and Work”, the “Großrössen Sport Club”, the “Voluntary Fire Brigade” and an active senior citizens' club.

Attractions

One of the largest burial mounds in Central Europe from the Bronze Age is located in the “Schweinert” nature reserve to the south-east of the district . Here, after the Battle of Mühlberg in April 1547, the Saxon Elector Johann Friedrich I (Saxony) was captured by troops of the army of Emperor Karl V, as a result of which the Schmalkaldic War ended with the Wittenberg surrender .

The Großrössen village church is on the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg.

traffic

Großrössen is close to the Jüterbog – Röderau railway line . There used to be a connecting curve in the direction of Herzberg (Elster) to the Falkenberg – Beeskow West railway line .
