history
The phrase “It's a kind of magic” is used in the Christopher Lambert film, which inspired Roger Taylor to write an entire song about it. In the text there are further allusions to the film: “One prize, one goal”, “no mortal man can win this day” or “there can be only one” (“there can only be one”, the subtitle of the film).
Freddie Mercury added the distinctive bass line to Taylor's piece and rearranged the song. Mercury then produced this new version with David Richards . Mercury's version came on the album, Taylor's version can be heard in the credits of the film, it was not released on phonograms until 2011, when it was released as a Highlander version on an extra EP to re-release the album.
The CD version of the album contains another version of the track as a bonus track called A Kind of “A Kind Of Magic” .
