David Richards (music producer)

David Richards (* 1956 in London ; † December 20, 2013 in Switzerland ) was a British music producer .

Life

David Richards had been with the Mountain Studios in Montreux since 1977 , which had long been owned by the rock band Queen , as (co-) producer and sound engineer on numerous albums by David Bowie , Queen, Chris Rea and other musicians. Some time after Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, Richards took over the studio from Queen.

His collaboration with Queen began in 1979 as the sound engineer for the double LP Live Killers . In the following years, Richards worked as co-producer, songwriter and keyboardist on Roger Taylor's first two solo albums. Together they produced several projects by other musicians in the mid-1980s, including Jimmy Nail's single Love Don't Live Here Anymore , which reached number three in the UK charts. From 1986 to 1995 David Richards co-produced the Queen's studio albums, including A Kind of Magic and Innuendo .

He has also worked for Miles Davis , Duran Duran , Bryan Ferry , Al Jarreau , Chaka Khan , BB King , Led Zeppelin , Iggy Pop and Sting, among others . He produced numerous publications for the Montreux Jazz Festival .

David Richards died on December 20, 2013 after a long illness in Switzerland.
