Sean Feargal Sharkey (born August 13, 1958 in Derry ) is a Northern Irish singer. He ended his artistic career at the beginning of the 1990s and has worked in music management ever since .

Career

Sharkey was first known as the front man of the punk pop band The Undertones . After their dissolution in 1983, he worked briefly with the group The Assembly . The result was the single Never Never , which reached fourth place in the UK charts .

In 1984 he began a career as a solo artist. Sharkey's biggest hit was the single A Good Heart , which was number 1 in the UK singles charts for two weeks in November 1985 . The song was written by Maria McKee . The follow-up single You Little Thief and his debut album , which was produced by Dave Stewart , also sold very well.

From the beginning of the 1990s, Sharkey was more active as a music producer and worked as an A&R manager at Polydor . From December 1998 to December 2003 he was a member of the UK Radio Authority . Since October 2008 he has been CEO of UK Music, an umbrella organization for the British music industry that he co-founded. In November 2011, he resigned from his position at UK Music to pursue other duties.

Speaking about his career and his decision to step down, Sharkey spoke about his career and his decision to step back, speaking on Simon Logan's afternoon show on August 7, 2013, on Simon Logan's afternoon show: “I had an absolutely brilliant career ... It was time to leave the stage and take your place do [for new artists]. "
