In 1984 Jennifer Rush recorded the song written by her, Gunther Mende , Candy de Rouge and Mary Susan Applegate . The ballad was designed sparingly and carried by Rush's singing voice. For the single version (like the album version 6:00 minutes long) a few synth strings have been added (sometimes referred to as "Orchestral Remix"). A short version (4:20) and a longer maxi version (7:10) were mixed for the UK release .

The Power of Love was released in December 1984 and became a number one hit in Canada , Australia , New Zealand , Great Britain, Ireland , Austria and Norway . In Germany , the title entered the charts at the end of January 1985 and was able to work its way up to 16th place. At the end of the year, the single was re-released - probably due to the great success of their single Destiny - and this time even reached the top 10 for a few weeks (highest ranking 9).
