Gunther Mende (born June 4, 1952 in Wiesbaden ) is a German music producer
Life
Gunther Mende took drum lessons at the age of six. After graduating from high school in Mainz, where he majored in German, politics and philosophy, he worked in his parents' stonemason and sculpture company. He financed his studies as a drummer in various show bands. At the end of 1976 he got the offer to work as a "staff producer" at CBS Records in Frankfurt. He produced a. a. the group Red Baron with frontman Candy de Rouge , with whom he worked even after the band broke up. Under the name EIGELB, the NDW single "Come on my palm" / "I'm crazy about you, my child" was released by Philips in 1982 . He began to write songs for various groups and individual artists, a. a. for Roy Black and Tommy Steiner before discovering Jennifer Rush . In 1994 Gunther Mende sold his recording studios and began a three-year hiatus in Cyprus. Gunther Mende has his main residence in Cyprus and sometimes also lives in Tyrol. He was married to the much younger pianist Mee Eun Kim, who also plays as a keyboard player in the US band Trans-Siberian Orchestra .
As a producer
Among others, he worked for and with artists such as Céline Dion , Tina Turner , Culcha Candela , Jan Vogler , Jennifer Rush , Udo Lindenberg , Falco , Mireille Mathieu , Nena , Sally Oldfield , Helen Schneider , Anna Maria Kaufmann , Cassandra Steen , Bonnie Bianco , Bobby Kimball from Toto , Samy Deluxe , The Boss Hoss , Peter Maffay , Sarah Connor , DJ Ötzi , Roger Cicero , Aloha from Hell and David Garrett .
At the beginning of the 80s Gunther Mende discovered the teen band of the Gad brothers with the frontman Toby Gad , who became one of the most famous music producers in the USA (producer of Alicia Keys , Beyoncé , Hannah Montana etc.). In 1984 Mende began working with singer Jennifer Rush. Together with Candy de Rouge he produced two albums with her. Well-known songs like “Ring of Ice”, “25 Lovers”, “Destiny” and “ The Power of Love ” sometimes stayed in the charts for up to 30 weeks. In 1985 the album “Jennifer Rush” rose to number 2 in the German charts. In the following year, the album “Movin” landed at number 1 in the charts and was named album of the year. Both LPs had chart positions 1st and 2nd simultaneously for several weeks and were released in 16 countries. They received platinum to triple platinum and numerous awards everywhere. In 1994 Gunther Mende produced Nena's album "And everything rotates" which was released by RMG.
From 1999 to 2001 he worked as a production consultant and publisher for the “ Rilke Project ”, in which well-known artists such as Mario Adorf , Peter Ustinov , Jessica Schwarz and Peter Maffay read poems by Rainer Maria Rilke and then added music to them. This project was also rewarded several times with precious metals.
In 2007, 2008 and 2009, Gunther Mende and his partner Alfred Bayer from BSB FILM Wiesbaden developed the format for the songwriter casting show " Dein Song " ZDF / KIKA. a. on the jury together with Joja Wendt , Nadja Benaissa from No Angels , Frank Ziegler and Johanna Klum evaluated the songs and was also responsible for the entire music production. In 2009 Gunther Mende produced the album “Beyond”. On this, Buddhist and Christian prayers are recited by Regula Curti, Dechen Shak-Dagsay and Tina Turner . The CD was released by Universal Classics, has been published in the USA, Canada, Japan and Korea and has already been awarded platinum in Switzerland. In addition to the American ASCAP - Pop Awards, which was presented in Los Angeles, received for his work 17 gold records, 12 times platinum, three times double platinum, twice triple platinum and was entitled "The power of love" in the Celine Dion Version, nominated for a Grammy . In 2010 Gunther Mende was high in the charts for over 5 months with the Falco album “ The Spirit Never Dies ”. The best placement of the album was number 1 in Austria and number 3 in the album charts in Germany and has achieved both gold and platinum status.
