Dechen Shak-Dagsay (* 1959 in Kathmandu , Nepal ) is a Swiss mantra - singer of Tibetan descent.

biography

Dechen Shak-Dagsay is the eldest of three daughters of the Tibetan Trülku Dagsay Rinpoche . She was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, where her family made a stopover after leaving Tibet for India after the 1959 Tibet Uprising . At the age of three she came to Switzerland with her family , where she has lived since then (see: Tibetans in Switzerland ). She learned traditional Tibetan singing and dancing in her childhood. The singer has been under contract with Polyglobe Music Austria since 1998 and has so far released 5 CDs and 4 DVDs there. In 2004 New Earth Records licensed three albums by the singer from Polyglobe Music, Austria for the American market. In 2005 she gave up her job in the marketing department of an international company to concentrate fully on her music. In 2007 the album Tara Devi received the Tibetan Music Award for best spiritual album of the year.

Dechen Shak-Dagsay is married to a Tibetan naturopath and has two grown daughters.
