Mary Susan Applegate

Mary Susan Applegate (born May 2, 1955 ) is an American songwriter , poet and songwriter who lives in Frankfurt am Main .

She wrote the lyrics of the song The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush in 1984 and has been writing songs for and with various artists and groups ever since. Her songs have been part of the Eurovision Song Contest over and over again in recent years .

Career

Applegate gained fame mainly through the song The Power Of Love . The original, sung by Jennifer Rush, topped the UK charts for five weeks in 1985. In 1994 the song became Celine Dion's first number one on the US Billboard charts and stayed at the top for four weeks. Dion's version won the ASCAP Pop Award for Most Performed Song in the US and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance , the American Music Awards , two Billboard Music Awards, and the Juno Award .

Applegate has also written hits for Milli Vanilli , No Mercy , Bad Boys Blue , Boney M. , Banaroo , Bonnie Bianco , Jennifer Rush, Far Corporation , Aaron Carter , Liberty X and Le Click . She worked with, among others, Nena , Udo Lindenberg , Dieter Falk , Tic Tac Toe , Funky Diamonds , Culture Beat , Yoomiii , Jazzamor , Cascada , Pur , Erkan Aki , Pete Seeger and Gotthard .

Do You Wanna comes from earlier times from the 1st album (1985) by the group Modern Talking , which she wrote together with Dieter Bohlen . She also left her mark on the German pop and hit world and wrote texts for Thomas Anders , Nino de Angelo , Matthias Reim , Michelle and Helene Fischer .

Eurovision Song Contest

Applegate and Victor Drobysch took second place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 for the Russian contribution to the Buranowskije Babuschki Party For Everybody . Further ESC contributions were Natalia Podolskaya's Nobody Hurt No One in 2005 for Russia (15th place in the final), she was also involved in Ivan's Belarusian contribution Help You Fly (2016). In 2019 Serhat sang Say Na Na Na for San Marino .

Poetry and song

Mary Susan Applegate is a member of the German experimental electronic band Air Liquide , consisting of Ingmar Koch (alias "Dr. Walker") and Cem Oral (alias " Jammin 'Unit "), which was founded in Frankfurt am Main in 1991 and where you own Brings in poems, texts and singing. Her chant to Air Liquide's “This is not a Mind Trip” was played in 1994 at the opening of the Love Parade in Berlin .

Scripts

Applegate collaborated with Frank Farian and Michael Stark on the storyboard of the Daddy Cool musical, which premiered in London's West End in 2006 at Shaftesbury Theater . She is working on a film biography with the director and producer Sven Fleck.
