Say Na Na Na is an English-language pop song by the Turkish singer Serhat , with whom he represented San Marino at the 64th Eurovision Song Contest . A German version was published under the title Sing Na Na Na .
Background and content
Serhat already represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 , where he finished 12th in the first semifinals with I Didn't Know . In January 2019 he was announced to participate again in the same year. According to his own account, he wrote the title in five minutes on the streets of Cologne after receiving a request from the San Marino radio station . He worked on the composition with Mary Susan Applegate. The song is an invitation to celebrate life and to give people hope and happiness. He was inspired by the film My Songs - My Dreams . The language of the title is in English, only in the pre-chorus after the second stanza the line “Bir İki Üç” (“One, two, three”) is in Turkish.
At the Eurovision Song Contest
Serhat appeared on May 14, 2019 as the last of the 17 participants in the first semi-finals. He reached 8th place with 150 points and was thus able to successfully qualify for the final four days later. There he appeared as the seventh of a total of 26 participants and reached 19th place. The vast majority of the points came from the audience. Since the qualification of Valentina Monetta in 2014 , this is considered the best result at the San Marino Grand Prix.
reception
The reactions were mostly average. Wiwibloggs praised the song for being a perfect match for Serhat. ESCXtra stated that the song was a lot of fun, but was rather weak in the totality of the participating Eurovision contributions. Roisin O'Connor, the Independent's music correspondent , said Serhat's appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest made her smile. He is bizarre, catchy and from a completely different world.
