Ahmet Serhat Hacıpaşalıoğlu (born October 24, 1964 in Istanbul ), known as Serhat , is a Turkish singer , producer and TV presenter .

Born and raised in Istanbul , Serhat started his producing career by starting his own company, End Productions, in 1994. That same year he started producing and hosting a quiz show for TRT , Riziko! (the Turkish version of the American quiz show Jeopardy! ). 1997 started his musical career with his first single, "Rüya-Ben Bir Daha". In addition to other work as a presenter and producer, he continued his musical career and released "Total Disguise" (in a duet with Viktor Lazlo ) in 2004 , "Chocolate Flavor", "I Was So Lonely", No No Never "(Mokau-Istanbul) in 2006 and “Ya + Ti” (the Russian version of “Total Disguise”). The last 3 songs were sung in a duet with Tamara Gwerdtsiteli and in 2014 “Je M'Adore”.

He represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm with the song " I Didn't Know " in the semifinals. In 2017 a disco version of "I Didn't Know" was released in a duet with Martha Wash . This reached the 25th place on the Dance Club Songs Chart , making Serhat the first Turkish singer to appear in the hit list. In 2018 a new version of “Total Disguise” appeared in a duet with Elena Paparizou . With “ Say Na Na Na ” Serhat came 19th for San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv in the final. Serhat speaks fluent English and German at a high level.

First years and upbringing

Serhat was born on October 24, 1964 in Istanbul , Turkey . His father Ismail Hakki was a naval officer from Trabzon , where his mother is from. He attended primary school in İcadiye , Üsküdar and then the German School Istanbul , Beyoğlu , Istanbul. In 1988 he graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry . In 1990 he completed two months of compulsory military service in Burdur .

Television and events

In 1994 Serhat founded his own production company, End Productions . After an agreement with TRT , his company produced the quiz show Riziko! , the Turkish version of the American quiz show Jeopardy! which he also hosted and which went on air on October 3, 1994. In 1995 he received two prizes from the Golden Butterfly (Turkish: Altin Kelebek ) for best male presenter and for the best quiz show of the year for Riziko! , whereby he was able to win the latter again in the following year. The show aired 430 times and ended in 1996. A game show called Hedef 4 , the Turkish version of Connect 4 , aired on TRT in 1996 and was produced by End Productions . In 1997 he produced the game show Altin Hücüm, the Turkish version of Midas Touch for Kanal 6 , which ended after 72 episodes in the same year. In 1998 Riziko returned ! back on screen, aired on Channel 7 and hosted by Serhat. That same year, Hedef 4 aired on Channel 7 and ended the following year. Riziko! ended in 1999 and in the same year Serhat hosted the talk show Serhat'la Rizikosuz on Channel 7, which ended after six episodes. After a few months, Riziko returned ! back on Channel 7 in 2000 and aired 65 times. In September 2005, Serhat co-hosted the Kalimerhaba TV show with Katerina Moutsatsou , also produced by End Productions . At the end of 2009 Serhat developed a dance orchestra show Caprice the Show with 18 musicians. Numerous appearances followed in the following years.

With his company he organizes annual events such as the music competition between high schools ( Liselerarası Müzik Yarışması , since 1998), the Megahit-International Mediterranean Song Contest ( Megahit-Uluslararası Akdeniz Şarkı Yarışması , 2002-2004) and the dance marathon ( Dans Maratonu , a Dance competition between high schools and universities, since 2009).

Musical career

In 1997 his musical career began with the two songs "Rüya" and "Ben Bir Daha". In 2004 he released his second single called "Total Disguise", which he sang in a duet with the French singer Viktor Lazlo . Text and music were written by Olcayto Ahmet Tuğsuz, the song was sung in English and French. The single also includes various remixes of the song. In 2005 he recorded "Chocolate Flavor". The song was released as a single in Greece with "Total Disguise" . In 2008 he worked with the Russian-Georgian singer Tamara Gwerdtsiteli and recorded with her “I Was So Lonely”, “No No Never (Moscow-Istanbul)” and “Ya + Ti”, the Russian version of “Total Disguise” . These songs were released as a single and appeared in Gwerdziteli's album Wosduschny Pozelui (2008).

In 2014 he started working in France and Germany . He released his fifth single, a French song called "Je m'adore", staged with a video by Thierry Vergnes and produced in Paris . For five weeks in a row, “Je m'adore” was number 1 in the German DJ Black Pop Charts , number 1 on the Black 30 , number 2 in the British Dance Charts , number 8 in the French Dance Charts and number 9 in the Suisse Dance Charts .

On January 12, 2016, San Marino RTV announced that Serhat will represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm . On March 9, 2016, the song " I Didn't Know " was released, with which he entered the competition. He sang in the semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 10, 2016, but missed the final in 12th place. On November 2, 2017, the disco version of "I Didn't Know" was released in a duet with Martha Wash , which was created in collaboration with the Swedish musician Johan Bejerholm. A new music video was also released for the single. The song debuted at 47th place on the Dance Club Songs chart in the United States and was best placed 25th in the fourth week of the music charts. Thus Serhat became the first Turkish singer to appear in these music charts. A new version of "Total Disguise" in a duet with Elena Paparizou was released on June 22, 2018. The music video for the single was released on September 14th.

On January 21, 2019, San Marino RTV announced that it would represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv . On the same day Serhat announced that he would release his first album in April 2019. The song he competed with, " Say Na Na Na, " was released with a video on March 7th. He reached the 19th place in the final with 77 points.

Serhat has been President of the Association of Former Students of the German School, Istanbul ( Turkish : İstanbul Alman Liseliler Derneği ) since 2010 and has been a board member of the Association for the Operation of the German School Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul Özel Alman Lisesi İdare Derneği ) since 2013 .
