Valentina Monetta (born March 1, 1975 in the city of San Marino ) is a pop singer from San Marino .

life and career

After a failed attempt in 2008, the singer was selected by an internal preliminary decision of the broadcaster RTV to represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . The text of the pop song Facebook Uh, Oh, Oh , composed by Ralph Siegel , had to be changed because commercial messages, in this case the mention of the Facebook network , are forbidden according to the EBU regulations . The title was therefore performed as The Social Network Song (oh oh -uh- oh oh) in the first semifinals of the competition. After evaluating the televoting and jury results, however, Monetta was unable to qualify for the final.

As RTV announced at the end of January, Monetta should also represent her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö . Siegel was again responsible for the song Chrysalis (Italian: Crisalide) . Here, too, she missed the finals.

After the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 it was announced that Valentina Monetta will also compete for San Marino in 2014 . With the song Maybe (Forse) , she qualified in the first semifinals of the competition for the final on May 10, 2014, making it the first female finalist in the country. She ended up in third from last place.

Valentina Monetta said in an interview with eurovision.tv that she might compete for San Marino again in 2015, but this could also have been due to her song title Maybe . In the end, however, the San Marino television SMRTV announced that Monetta would not compete again in 2015 and that a successor is currently being sought. On April 3, Monetta said in an interview that she might want to take part in the ESC for a fourth time. At the 2015 competition in Vienna, Monetta was finally the points spokesperson for San Marino.

On March 12, 2017 it was announced that Monetta will take part in the ESC for the fourth time in 2017 . In Kiev she performed the song "Spirit of the Night" in the second semifinals with Jimmie Wilson . Here, too, she missed the finals.

In 2018 she presented Questa donna insopportabile - Mina cantata a modo mio, a tribute program to the Italian singer Mina in the Teatro Titano.
