Georg Schönberger (mathematician)
Georg Schönberger (also Schonberger or Schomberger , Latinized Georgius Schönbergerus ; * 1596 in Innsbruck , † August 1, 1645 in Gradisch near Olmütz ) was a German Jesuit and mathematician .
Schönberger studied at the University of Ingolstadt with Christoph Scheiner , entered the Jesuit order in 1615 and became a teacher of literature, philosophy, Hebrew, theology and mathematics in Freiburg im Breisgau . He then went to Bohemia and became Vice-Rector at the Jesuit College in Prague and then Rector in Olomouc, where he died in 1645.
In his writings he dealt with the construction of sundials and with questions of optics .
The Schomberger lunar crater was named after him by the IAU in 1935 .
