Jon Secada
Jon Secada (* 4. October 1961 as Juan Francisco Secada Martínez in Havana , Cuba ) is an American singer and songwriter of Cuban origin.
Life
Secada immigrated to the United States at the age of nine and grew up in Miami , Florida. He studied from 1979 at the University of Miami , where he received a Masters in Jazz Vocal Performance . He was also accepted into the university's Iron Arrow Academic Honor Society .
At the end of the 80s he met Emilio Estefan, the husband of Gloria Estefan , and in 1989 he was background singer on the LP Cuts Both Ways . He also wrote his first track on this album with Say . In 1991 Gloria Into The Light was released . Again Jon was a backing vocalist, and again he'd worked as a writer. This time there were six songs, including the front runner Coming Out Of The Dark . A good time to take care of a solo contract, with the support of Gloria Estefan.
He developed a passion for R&B and pop and was inspired by Marvin Gaye , Billy Joel , Elton John and Stevie Wonder . His music is a mixture of these sounds and contains funk, soul and undertones of Latin percussion. Since its debut album in 1992, Secada has sold around 20 million records, most of which were published by the music publisher EMI Group .
He was on stage with Luciano Pavarotti and recorded a duet with Frank Sinatra . As a songwriter he has worked for artists such as Jennifer Lopez , Ricky Martin and Mandy Moore .
In 1995 Jon played Danny Zuco in the musical Grease on Broadway, and in 2003 he was seen in New York City in Studio 54 in the musical Cabaret in the role of MC.
Own music
In 1992 his first album was released. It bears its own name: "Jon Secada". His biggest hits from it were Just Another Day , an international top 5 hit or Do You Believe In Us . His Spanish-language album "Otro día mas sin verte", also from 1992, was number 1 in the Latin charts on Billboard's and received a Grammy for the best "Latin Pop Album."
The albums "Heart Soul and a Voice" (1994), "Si te vas" (1994) and "Amor" (1995) followed. For "Amor" Secada received his second Grammy in the category "Best Latin Pop Performance". In the same year he sang a song for the Oscar-winning Walt Disney film Pocahontas with R'n'B singer Shanice .
In the late 1990s, more albums were released (see discography ). The last solo album "Same Dream" was released in 2005. Two years later Secada was working on an album by Lilian Garcia .
