Another Day in Paradise was written by Phil Collins and Hugh Padgham to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness , especially in the United States . In the video , photos of the homeless and text inserts (“One Billion People Have Inadequate Shelter”, “3 Million Homeless In America” and “100 Million Homeless Worldwide”) underline the message. In addition to Collins, who took over vocals, keyboards and drums, David Crosby as backing singer , Leland Sklar on bass and Dominic Miller as guitarist took part in the recording .

The song was released on October 9, 1989 as the first single from Collins album ... But Seriously . After its release in the US in December 1989, the piece was number one on the Billboard charts for four weeks . In 1991, Collins and Padgham received a Grammy for the song as recording of the year . In 2001, the American R&B singer Brandy released a cover version of the song in a duet with her brother Ray J as a single from the European version of her album Full Moon . Brandy also recorded the song for Project Urban Renewal , a tribute album for Collins with covers of his hits by hip-hop and R&B artists. The R&B version was produced by Guy Roche and a dance remix by the Norwegian hit duo Stargate . Brandy's version also achieved top ten placements in various countries. In addition, the cover version received the gold record in Austria, Australia , Germany, France and Switzerland .
