background

"Turn It Up" is the first Afrodisiac song that the public heard in full. The tenth track on the album pays homage to the 1990s both in content and music, with references to R&B artists such as Donnie Simpson, Kid 'n Play and Tony! Toni! Toné! . Also mentioned is the R&B singer Aaliyah , who died in 2001 , as well as her producers for the 1996 album One In A Million and hip-hop musicians Missy Elliott and Timbaland . The song also contains elements of old-skool hip-hop and beatboxing by Timbaland, which gives the song a nostalgic touch. Timbaland commented on the collaboration as follows

“Me and Brandy had a chemistry. I think I have a real chemistry with women when it comes to my music. Brandy gave me the feeling that we should have been working together. Her singing over my beats is incredible. "

“The chemistry between me and Brandy was right. I think there is a general chemistry between me and the women when it comes to music. Brandy made me feel like we should work together. Your singing on my beats is just amazing. "
